Privacy Policy

Your privacy and confidentiality are important to me. This policy explains how I collect, use, store and protect personal information when you visit this website, make an enquiry, or engage with my psychotherapy practice.

I am the data controller for personal information processed through my private practice and this website. I handle personal information in accordance with UK data protection law and the professional standards and confidentiality requirements of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).

Information I collect

When you contact me through this website, by email or by telephone, I may collect information such as your name, contact details and any information you choose to provide about the reason for your enquiry.

If we agree to work together, I may also collect information necessary to provide psychotherapy and manage the professional relationship. This may include contact and administrative information, relevant personal and clinical information, correspondence, appointment information and payment or invoicing records.

Where I work with a child or young person, I may also hold relevant information about parents or carers and, where appropriate, other professionals involved in their care.

How I use your information

I use personal information for the purposes of providing and administering psychotherapy services, including responding to enquiries, arranging appointments, communicating with clients or parents and carers, maintaining appropriate clinical records, issuing invoices and meeting my professional, legal and regulatory responsibilities.

I do not use clinical or enquiry information for marketing purposes and I do not sell personal information to third parties.

Confidentiality and sharing information

Information shared with me in the course of psychotherapy is treated as confidential and handled in accordance with my professional obligations.

There may be limited circumstances in which I need to share information, for example where there is a serious concern about the safety or welfare of a client or another person, where I am legally required to disclose information, or where sharing information is otherwise necessary to meet my professional responsibilities. Wherever possible and appropriate, I would discuss this with you first.

I may also discuss clinical work within professional supervision. This forms part of responsible psychotherapeutic practice and is conducted within professional confidentiality requirements.

How your information is stored

I take reasonable steps to keep personal and clinical information secure and to protect it from unauthorised access, loss or disclosure.

Information may be held electronically or, where appropriate, in paper records. I use professional services and systems for aspects of practice administration, such as email, invoicing and website enquiries. Where these services process personal information on my behalf, I take reasonable steps to use providers with appropriate data protection and security arrangements.

How long I keep information

I retain personal and clinical information only for as long as it is reasonably necessary for clinical, professional, legal, insurance or regulatory purposes. Different types of information may therefore be retained for different periods.

When information is no longer required, it is securely deleted or destroyed.

Website enquiries

When you submit the contact form on this website, the information you provide is used to respond to your enquiry.

Please avoid including highly sensitive or detailed clinical information in the website contact form. More confidential information can be discussed once we have established an appropriate means of communication.
